Capuchinas Temple

The Capuchin Church in Guadalajara, built at the end of the 18th century thanks to the intervention of Bishop Fray Antonio Mayor, has a history marked by events that have transformed its original function and structure. Founded by the Community of Capuchinos Poor, the convent was completed towards the end of this very century, becoming a significant religious center. However, over the years, the building experienced multiple transformations. During the War of Reform, the convent was used as a military barracks, and in 1872, it became a political prison. Today, the church occupies only a small part of the vast land that once occupied the convent, as the complex has been fractured. Despite these modifications, the church retains elements of great architectural value, highlighting its sober Baroque style facade with classic lines. The covers reflect this fusion of austerity and elegance of the baroque in its most contained expression.
