Our Lady of Mercy Temple

The Merced Temple is one of those discreet but deeply significant sites within the historical landscape of Guadalajara. Its construction began in 1859, adopting a neoclassical style that manifests itself in the sobriety of its forms and in the harmony of its composition. Although the passage of time has left a mark on its structure, the temple retains elements that deserve an attentive look, such as its murals and vitrals, which bring color and symbolism to the interior of the enclosure. On the outside, its columns of the Baroque-style grey quarry, an interesting contrast that enriches its architectural character, stand out. The temple has only one tower, a detail that distinguishes it and gives it a unique personality within the urban set. Although it has suffered deterioration from both natural causes and the various episodes of Mexico's history, the Temple of the Merced remains a valuable witness of faith, art and memory, inviting the visitor to discover the beauty that persists even in imperfection.
