Diana Theatre

The Diana Theatre is today one of Guadalajara's most emblematic cultural venues, but its history dates back to a time when entertainment had another face. In the place where he currently stands, there was the Diana Cinema, a highly prestigious film room designed by the renowned architect Julio de la Peña. This space was part of an ambitious complex that also included the Guadalajara Condominium and the Hilton Hotel, representing in its time a proposal of architectural avant-garde in the urban core of the city. For decades, Diana Film was a reference for lovers of the seventh art. However, in 1995 it closed its doors, marking the end of an era. Far from being forgotten, the space was rescued in June 2001 by the University of Guadalajara, with the vision of making it a renewed cultural centre, capable of generating memorable experiences for new generations. The transformation from film to theatre was under the advice of experts such as Alejandro Luna and Cristian Escurdia, with a team led by architect Héctor García Curiel, Guillermo Rivas Montiel, and the construction company El Opeño. During the remodeling, original elements such as the gradery, the lobby and the murals of José María Servin were preserved, which were restored by the School of Conservation and Restoration of the West (ECRO), returning their astral splendor.
