Degollado Theatre

The Degollado Theatre is one of the great cultural icons of Guadalajara and a symbol of the artistic development of Jalisco. Opened in September 1866, this majestic Neoclassical-style building, designed by the architect Jacobo Gálvez, has witnessed over 150 years of history. From its first function, the opera Lucía di Lammermoor de Gaetano Donizetti with the soprano Angela Peralta, the theatre was consolidated as a high cultural setting and is now considered one of the best preserved in Hispanoamerica. Inside, the main room preserves valuable works of art, including the mural that represents the Fourth Song of the Divine Comedy, made by the jalissian painters Jacobo Gálvez, Gerardo Suárez and Carlos Villaseñor, integrating architecture and art into a unique experience. Currently, the Teatro Degollado is home to the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and houses a wide range of theatre, opera, dance and cultural festivals, remaining a living space where tradition and contemporary creation continue to mark the cultural pulse of Guadalajara.
