Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The temple of Our Lady of Guadalupe was built between 1777 and 1781 at the request of the Dominican friar Antonio Mayor and Barriga, who promoted its building in a baroque style. This temple is not only a place of prayer, but also a reflection of the art and devotion of its time. During the transition to the neoclassical style, the original golden wood altarpieces were replaced by altars of this new style, which marks an interesting evolution in the religious aesthetics of the region. The main altar of the temple stands out for its "niche" dedicated to the Virgin, made of carved and carved wood, which highlights the devotion of the time. The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, consecrated in 1779, was the work of the sculptor Don José Alciba and has remained a central symbol of the temple. This figure, which occupies a prominent place in popular devotion, remains a reference for the faithful who visit the temple.
