Arcedian Bridge

The Arcediano Bridge, opened in 1894 by Salvador Collado, is a historic piece of Mexican engineering, being the first pendant bridge in the country and the second in America, only behind the emblematic Brooklyn Bridge. Its main objective was to connect communities such as Ixtlahuacán del Río, Cuquío and Teocaltiche with Guadalajara. Over the years, the bridge has gone through several transformations, the first of them after 1950, when the collapse of the bridge was caused by a herd of cows crossing the river. In 2005, the bridge was dismantled due to the construction of the Arcedian dam, but it was relocated 700 meters downstream, maintaining the original technique of its construction. Today, the bridge remains a tourist attraction, located at the end of a descent towards the ravine, where you can see impressive views of the surrounding nature. The route to the bridge, which takes about five kilometres, is carried out by the Barranca de Huentitán, following the signs of the road. It is a challenging walk, but with visual rewards that make the experience unique and perfect for the photos.
