Saint Peter the Apostle Parish

The Parish of St. Peter the Apostle is one of the great symbols of identity and faith of St. Peter Tlaquepaque. Its construction, started in 1670 and completed in 1813, gives an account of a long historical process that reflects the architectural and spiritual evolution of the municipality. Dedicated to St. Peter, his patron saint, the parish has for centuries been the religious and social point of reference of the community, accompanying the most significant moments of their collective life. In its architecture, Baroque, Roman and Byzantine elements are harmonically merged, resulting from the different constructive stages and remodeling it experienced throughout the 19th century. This stylistic wealth gives it a unique character within the urban landscape of Tlaquepaque. In front of the temple is the statue of John Paul II, the work of the artist Jorge Fausto Arias, inaugurated in April 2006 as a tribute to the first lucptuous anniversary of the Pontiff. This ensemble makes the parish and its explanade a space of deep symbolic burden, where history, art and devotion continue to be a living part of the heart of the municipality.
