Parish San Juan De Dios

The Parish of St. John of God has a history deeply linked to the care and care of the sick. Its origin dates back to 1551, when the Confraternity of the Precious Blood of Christ was created by Pedro Gómez Maraver, the first effective bishop of Guadalajara. This fellowship was initially founded in the chapel of Santa Veracruz, which also housed rooms for the care of the sick. Later, in 1606, the religious of St. John of God took control of the sick rooms, which led the temple to adopt its final name. The original church, built in the 16th century around the chapel of Santa Veracruz, was demolished, and on May 3, 1726 the works of the present church began with the approval of the Marquis de Uluapa, Vizcount of Estrada and Dean of the Cathedral.
