San José de Analco Parish

The church of San José de Analco is one of the most representative temples of the traditional district of the same name, to the east of Guadalajara. Its history dates back to the first half of the 17th century, when the original church was built to attend to the growing population of indigenous people and mestizos living in this area of the city. Over time, the temple has been the object of seven reconstructions, especially during the 19th and 20th centuries, resulting in an architecture that mixes different styles and historical moments, but that retains its essence of community and tradition. Dedicated to St. Joseph, his patron saint, the temple also has a chapel to the south, in which it is sold to Our Lady of Health. This image, much loved by the faithful, was originally in the temple of San Sebastián, but was moved to San José de Analco in 1897, where it remains a point of devotion and pilgrimage.
