Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was the fruit of the devotion and generosity of José María Romo de Vivar, who for years gathered funds with the firm desire to build a sacred enclosure dedicated to the Sacred Heart. His intention came to the ears of the second archbishop of Guadalajara, Don Pedro Loza and Pardavé, to whom Romo de Vivar himself presented his project and the resources he had already made available for it. Initially, his desire was for the temple to be built to the west of the city; however, the archbishop disagreed with that location and granted him permission under the condition that it be built on the east side. To resolve the difference, both agreed to leave the decision at random, throwing a coin to define the place. The result favored the archbishop, and this was how a large land was chosen located in the confluence of the then streets of La Paz and Dionisio Rodríguez. In addition to the temple, the archbishop ordered the establishment of a primary school and the rectory.
