Parish of San Felipe Neri

The Parish of San Felipe Neri, founded in 1752 in Guadalajara, has a fascinating history that reflects the evolution of the city and its religious traditions. Originally erected by the Congregation of the Oratory of the Philippine Brothers, it was designed under the direction of the alarife Pedro José Ciprés. Its construction began a year after the actual approval of Fernando VI, in a land known as La Palma, which is now a significant area in the Historical Centre of Guadalajara. This Latin cross temple is distinguished by its imposing façade, which emulates a monumental altarpiece. With a series of sectioned pilasters that adorn its structure and with elaborate decorative elements, its baroque style stands out in all its splendor. The mixtiline cornice of the frontis, which seems to enclose the image of the Virgin on a pink quarry comb, and the ornamentation surrounding it, gives a sense of protection and magnificence. In addition, the bell tower, considered the most beautiful in the city, offers a rich iconography and perfect proportions, adding even more value to the architecture of this temple.
