Parish of San Antonio de Tapalpa

The Parish of San Antonio de Tapalpa is one of the oldest and most mystical temples in the region, with a history that exceeds three hundred and fifty years. Over more than three centuries, this compound has witnessed the development of the people, accompanying their religious, social and cultural life from the first settlements. Its antiquity is perceived not only in its architecture, but also in the stories and legends that are part of the collective memory of Tapalpa. Among the most well-known stories is the one that narrates the arrival of bandits with the intention of plundering the parish, attracted by the vessels and objects of gold that he kept. According to the oral tradition, as the assailants approached, they saw a man with a black hood on the top of the temple who, with constant fire, prevented them from approaching. Atemorized, the bandits fled, interpreting the appearance as a divine sign of protection. This legend has lasted for generations, strengthening the sacred and protective character of the temple, which today remains a central point of faith, identity and tradition in Tapalpa.
