Saint Augustine Parish

The Convent of Saint Augustine was founded in 1573, thanks to the approval of King Philip II of Spain. His first prior was Fra Juan Adriano, who was supported by Bishop Mendiola to establish this important religious center in Guadalajara. Over the centuries, the convent played a prominent role in the spiritual and social life of the city. At present, the former convent is fractured, although it still retains part of its original structure, especially the courtyard and the main cloister. The latter is still in use, as it houses the School of Music of the University of Guadalajara, which allows space to continue to be a cultural and educational meeting point.
