Garden of Carmen

The Garden of Carmen is one of those spaces that don't raise their voices, but they say a lot. Located in front of the Church of Carmen of which it takes its name this garden built in 1882 has, for generations, been a silent meeting point in the heart of Guadalajara. Here the city takes a break: between benches, shade and vegetation, the garden retains an intimate atmosphere that invites you to stop and observe the daily rhythm of the Historical Centre from the calm. Inside it, it keeps a detail that makes it a deeply symbolic place. To the center is a commemorative fountain dedicated to the foundation of Guadalajara, where an inscription recalls the four previous settlements of the city: Nochistlán, Tonalá, Tlacotlán and finally Atemajac in 1542. This discreet but powerful gesture transforms the Garden of Carmen into a space of living memory, where history and urban life live together in a natural way. To visit it is to discover that in Guadalajara even the quieter corners have something important to tell.
