La Minerva roundabout

La Minerva is an emblematic sculpture that rises in one of the most busy and representative of Guadalajara, Jalisco. Opened in 1956, it is located at the crossroads of the Avenida Vallarta and López Mateos, a strategic and deeply symbolic point of the city. Over time, this work has been consolidated as one of the most recognized icons of Guadalajara, functioning not only as a geographical reference, but as a symbol of pride, character and collective strength. The sculpture represents Minerva, a Roman goddess of wisdom, just war and the arts, evoking values of intelligence, strategy and protection. It was made by the artists Joaquín Arias Méndez and Pedro Medina Guzmán, who achieved a composition of great monumental and female strength. Its creation was driven by then-governor Agustín Yáñez, as part of an ambitious project of modernization and urban beautification that marked Guadalajara during the 1950s.
