Millennium Arches

The sculpture of the Third Millennium Arches, started in 1999 and not yet completed, consists of four yellow metal arches that gradually increase in size. With a height of 52 meters and a weight of more than 1,500 tons, it is located in the confluence of the avenues Lázaro Cárdenas and Mariano Otero, in the Colonia Jardines del Bosque. This project was approved by the City Council of Guadalajara during the mayor's office of Francisco Javier Ramírez Acuña and selected by consensus between artists and urbanists. The construction is carried out by the Favier Group, under the direction of Rolf Tiessen Favier. The Third Millennium Arches represent not only a work of art, but also an effort to improve the urban image of Guadalajara and promote urban art, a trend that has not been observed in the city since the 1960s. The work was conceived as an allusion at the beginning of the new millennium, giving continuity to the tradition of installing significant urban sculptures, such as The Tower of the Cubos and The Yellow Bird. These arches symbolize Guadalajara's evolution and growth towards a modern and dynamic metropolis.
